I was so excited when I opened my daily email from The Modern Quilt Guild Friday morning and saw that one of my blocks was selected from the Quilt Con Block Challenge for the quilt to be raffled at the Modern Quilt Guild’s conference (Quilt Con) in February, 2013 in Austin, Texas. You can only buy raffle tickets for this quilt if you go to the conference AND I am for sure going now! Much thanks to Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Fransson! for all the work in putting this project together. It was a huge undertaking.
What an honor to be chosen! I am a fifty-something quilter, but I just love this movement that has gotten so many young women interested in sewing and quilting. You see, I have always loved sewing, even when it wasn’t cool.
The Jacksonville Chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild is forming and the first meeting is next Saturday. Check The Modern Quilt Guild website for information to join in the fun. I am a member of the Gainesville (Florida) Modern Quilt Guild, but I live in between Gainesville and Jacksonville, so why not meet more modern quilters! This chapter has been trying to form for at least a year, so I can’t wait to meet the person that has organized this get together.
This weekend Eddie and I will be helping out 13 year old grandson, Colson, celebrate his birthday and I think I will be working on another dog bed, placemats or an outfit for my granddaughter, Izzy. It all depends on my mood, but the dog bed stuff is all laid out. This time I will make a pillow type dog bed. Even though the foam beds are nice on the old bones, my labs love to “nest” so I need a bed that they can “fluff up”. It is so funny to watch my one lab try to “fluff up” the foam bed. She works and works, but never gets anywhere. I am also needing a gift for my Altrusa Club’s scholarship fund raiser. I am thinking a set of Dragonfly Quiltworks placemats and napkins might be nice, but I still might just donate money. I still hate to presume that just because I like my placemats, everyone else will like them too. It would be just my luck that I man would win them and be disappointed that he didn’t win a drill or a shot gun. Oh well, it is all about having fun and raising money for college scholarships.
I hope you all have a great weekend ~ Lora
