My challenge this week was to try to get my studio organized a bit. I started out Wednesday (July 4th) with this project – assembly of the Martha Stewart Living Craft Space Standard File Cabinet. I purchased this in September 2011 and felt like it was time to get it out of the box and put it together. Having already assembled three other pieces from the MS Living Craft line, I knew that I didn’t need to be in a hurry as it would probably take me all day – and with all my starts and stops and mistakes – it did! This is what it was supposed to look like when finished, and it eventually did. This furniture can be purchased from Home Decorators Collection which is a division of Home Depot. I have been slowly acquiring this furniture for my studio and I finally got everything assembled. All the furniture I purchased is counter height, so I can use as a cutting or work surface if needed. I have purchased white custom cutting mats the size of each piece. I doubt I will cut on these surfaces, but the mats protect the surfaces from anything that might harm it, such as markers, water, wine or coffee stains, scratches, etc. I purchased the mats online from GWJ Company. Here are pictures of the other three pieces I have purchased: the three drawer flat file, the craft table and the storage cabinet. The craft table also comes in a desk height, but I opted for counter height and use a bar stool. It helps me to keep my posture. I also work at the computer standing up sometimes and just recently found out that this is becoming common in offices, however, I don’t think it would fly in my office!
The storage cabinet holds some of my fabric and miscellaneous tools and perfect for my new 32″ TV/DVD combo, directv receiver and scanner (got to also be able to work in this space). The space under the craft table has a function that I will reveal later. The top of the craft table holds my PC computer, calculator, phone and lamp. The flat file holds the embroidery unit for my sewing machine, some dies and die cutting mats for my Go! and Sizzix machines and more miscellaneous tools. The green fabric boxes on the bottom shelf holds garment sewing patterns. The top surface of the flat file holds a label writer and postage scale for my Etsy shop, my Apple computer (mainly used for music and pictures, rather than real work), chargers for my ipad and iphone and computer speakers.
Besides sewing, quilting and crafting, I do love my technology – can you tell?
Today I assembled a printer bench from IKEA that I’ll talk about in another post. Last, but not least, I hung these words of inspiration that I found at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I’m pretty pleased with the way Studio West turned out, but I can’t reveal the rest yet, it still needs work. I even made a sale in my Etsy shop today – all in all it has been a pretty good day! Hope you have a blessed Sunday!
