I have been crazy busy! When I’m not making placemat samples, I am thinking about them. I have a potential wholesale customer and I am trying to come up with a design that is appealing to them. When I look at fabric, I try to envision it in a placemat. After a long conversation with the potential customer today, I have a better understanding of the desired aesthetic (listen to me, I sound like I’m on Project Runway!). I am now back to the drawing board. The design (with the inside border) is a go, it is just the fabric I need tweak. I thought you might like to see the samples so far. This was a placemat I shared in an earlier post. It is made with Amy Butler Belle collection. I changed out the button to something more interesting.
The next attempt was made from Robert Kaufman Essex Linen/Cotton Blend and a japanese import fabric.
Lastly I made a different design with the fabric I purchased at Quilt Fest Jax, designed by Kim Shaefer for Andover Fabrics.
The napkin is made with Painter’s Canvas by Laura Gunn from Michael Miller Fabrics. The best part is making the napkin ring with cool buttons.
On a different note, I found this journal at Target and the pattern really appealed to me, so I pulled together these Kona Cotton Solids, hoping to make a quilt inspired by this design. Pretty huh?
So what do you have in progress? I am linking up with the WIP Wednesday blog post over at Freshly Pieced. So don’t forget to check out what some of the other bloggers have posted, and remember, they all love comments!

Really cute- I’ll be interested to see what style they go with. I love the one with that Kim Shaefer fabric, but I know bright isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!

Thanks for commenting! I love that one also, but my customer kinda likes grey. So I’m revamping my whole plan on this one. I like grey too, but not by itself. I guess they are going for a more subdued look.

Lovely! I’ve always been partial to busy patterned placemats … The inevitable stains do not show as readily. 🙂

I hear you! My family and I would ruin that solid one the first time we used it.

Thanks! I thought it was a really fun print. I always like a bit of black and white, I think it adds alot to the design.
