Always on the look out for new and exciting modern quilt projects, I have been following the Generation Q Magazine blog for some time now. Recently the first print version of the magazine, Summer 2012, was released and I had to get my hands on it. It isn’t sold in too many retail locations (yet) but if you would like to see where to find one, check out this link.
First off, who doesn’t love Amy and David Butler? There is a great article in this issue about their designing life and work styles. The cool cover quilt, Hugs & Kisses No. 9, by Scott Hansen (GenQ Community Editor and owner of Blue Nickel Studios) is made from fabrics from both Amy and David’s collections. The pattern for the quilt is included in this issue.
Another favorite quilt of mine is Love in the Afternoon, by Melissa Peda. This medallion style quilt is made from fabric from various Westminster and FreeSpirit’s designer lines. I am partial to Kaleidoscope blocks, so the center medallion Kaleidoscope block caught my attention immediately. Melissa is the author of 100 Billion Stars blog. For a sneak peak at the quilt, visit Melissa’s blog post here.
The magazine contains patterns from other favorite blogger/designers such as Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts, Rashida Coleman-Hale of I Heart Linen and Heather Jones of Olive and Ollie blog. There are some interesting articles about trends in the both the brick and mortar and virtual quilt world. I don’t want to give it all away, so get your copy today. I think you will enjoy it. Still not convinced? Visit some of the blogs on the blog tour for a closer look.
Have a great weekend ~ Lora
