Happy Hump Day everyone! As you can see, I am still experimenting with chevrons. I made these blocks pretty darn small -3-1/2” x 6” (unfinished). This translates to a LONG project if I use these blocks for the entire quilt. So…I revised my plan. I am just going to use these blocks for a border, put a “whole cloth” piece as the main part of the quilt and applique the child’s name on the quilt. I got my inspiration from a Moda Bake Shop pattern by Melissa Mortenson. Anyway, in order to get the border to come out correctly, I decided to make the quilt in reverse order and make the border first, and then cut the “whole cloth” piece to fit the border. In fact, I will cut the “whole cloth” piece much larger than I expect it to be, in case I mess up with the machine applique. Many years of experience have taught me to anticipate the errors. The photos show the various option I came up with to “turn the corner” of the border. I believe I like option 3 the best, what do you think? This is a quilt for my youngest grandson made with Robert Kaufman Dr. Seuss fabric. It is very bright and cheerful in primary colors. I had to order the fabric for the back and “whole cloth” center, so I may have to put this back on hold while waiting for the fabric to arrive. However, it will take a few more days to finish up the border.

I finally finished the labeling on the Winter Palace quilt. I machine embroidered on the front of the quilt for a tone-on-tone effect. I didn’t want it to stand out too much. The jury is still out on this particular method. I think if I do this again, I will do the embroidery on the top before the quilt is sandwiched and quilted.

I sewed a few hanging sleeves on a couple of quilts that I need to photograph for my Quilt Gallery page. While I was at it I decided to make a tutorial of the process. You know what they say about teaching? You REALLY learn a topic when you have to teach it. In the past I have always purchased pre-made sleeves (always wanting to save time) and this time I decided to make them myself. You need a pleat in the sleeve to make room for the hanging rod. Check out the tutorial. I hope someone finds it helpful.

Still no progress on the pin cushion or additional dog beds. Don’t forget to check out the other WIPs over at Freshly Pieced.

Happy Wednesday ~ Lora
